On May 16, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Quilemba Solar Power Plant took place in Lubango — highlighted as the largest private solar plant in the country. With an initial capacity of 35 MWp and a total of 80 MWp, the project will supply electricity to around 40,000 households in the region.

Quilemba Solar is the result of a joint partnership between TotalEnergies, Sonangol and Maurel & Prom, with the project execution entrusted to Enerline, in partnership with EnergyCon.

The ceremony was attended by the Vice-Governor of Huíla for the Political and Social sector, Maria João Chipalavela, representing Governor Nuno Bernabé Mahapi Dala, who presided over the event’s opening. In her speech, she highlighted the project as an example of joint commitment to sustainable development and the energy transition.

Also present were the Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Barroso, the French Ambassador to Angola, Sophie Aubert, as well as representatives from the Regulatory Institute for Electricity and Water Services (IRSEA), the National Transmission Grid (RNT), and other entities.

We are confident that this project represents a firm step towards ensuring stable energy and paving the way for a stronger province.
